The English Entry Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002 - 15:58 (aka A Phonecall From Paris)I had intended to write one (just one!) entry in English for a very long time, and this opportunity is as good as it gets. For today I recieved a special phonecall. But let`s start at the beginning. Those of you who visit this site from time to time might not know how it came about. Well, it was one night earlier this year that I was sitting at home, watching "Die Harald Schmidt Show" on my litte black-and-white television. This very show`s guest was not your average TV-show-celebrity but Miss Gentry Lane, a young woman from Paris and fellow diarylander. As it turned out, Schmidt`s coworkers had accidentially stumbled upon her diary while surfing the web and decided to bring her on the show. The talk was fun and interesting and in the following days I myself searched the web for Gentry`s site. And found it. And have been reading it ever since. One boring evening I decided to try writing a weblog myself, the result is what you see here. Well, today Gentry celebrates her 1000. entry on her site - and decided to try something special. She would personally call the first twenty of her readers, who send her their phone numbers, and thank them for reading. Keep in mind that her site has 2000 visits per day. And guess who got a call from Paris this afternoon? I was at the supermarket next door, when all of a sudden my phone rang. I picked up and a female voice asked: "Ist Christian da?" "Am Apparat," I answered and, just like that, I was talking to Gentry Lane. For about fifteen minutes we spoke about Paris, american foreign policy, the german elections, my search for a job, the great flood and - of course - Götz Alsmann`s appearance at Die Harald Schmidt Show earlier this week. Always switching back and forth between German and English. Then she was gone, going out to enjoy the nice weather at the Seine and I was left with my shopping list again. I have no idea whether she reads this, but still I decided to write this entry in her first language. It was great fun talking to you. Cela m'a très surpris mais également fait très plaisir de téléphoner avec toi. Surtout que c'est toi qui m'a inspiré à tout ca! (I had someone translate this for me!)
